On June 1, the submission campaign for the 19th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival to be held in the capital of Tatarstan from September 5 to 9, to be finished.
The 2023 festival campaign started on February 1. Currently, the organizing committee of the festival received 428 entries from filmmakers from 30 countries. Among those who expressed a desire to present their film work at the Kazan Muslim Film Festival are representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Greece, Kurdistan, Turkey, UAE, Singapore, Tajikistan, India, Estonia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Iraq, Georgia, Armenia, Latvia, Belarus, France, Australia, USA, Canada, Brazil, Bangladesh, Palestine, Syria. The largest number of entries were received for the nomination “Short feature films”. 625 entries from 44 countries were submitted to the competitive program of the 2022 festival.
The submission campaign will last until June 1. The selection committee will finish its work by the beginning of July, after which the competition program will be published. The program of the Kazan Muslim Film Festival may include Russian and international films reflecting universal spiritual and moral values and cultural traditions, bearing the ideas of peacemaking, religious tolerance and humanism.
The selection committee, as last year, is headed by Nina Kochelyaeva, a historian and culturologist, and the director of the New Institute of Cultural Studies, researcher at VGIK, doctoral student of the Laboratory for Modeling Practices and Technologies of Intercultural Dialogue of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Russia).
The competition program will be composed by the Head of the Department of Philology and Regional Studies of the Russian Islamic Institute Dr. Timur Shaikhullin and a film critic and author of publications on culture and cinema of Central Asia and Turkey, Director General of the Eurasia Global Connecting Agency Dr. Svetlana Slapke (Germany). In addition, this year the first Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation Rushan Abbyasov is included in the selection committee.
The competition program will be constituted by full-length and short feature films and documentaries. Moreover, the program will include the special nomination “National Competition”.
Kazan Muslim Film Festival 2023 was included in the list of film projects supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The 19th edition of the festival is being held with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, as well as in partnership with Russia — the Islamic World strategic vision group. The festival is held under the motto “Through the dialogue of cultures - to the culture of dialogue”.
